Snow White and the Huntsman writer will pen G.I. Joe 3
Despite some critically scathing reviews of G.I. Joe: Retaliation (and of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra before that), Paramount felt the success of the G.I. Joe sequel was enough to warrant a third film in the franchise. Paramount already had Jon M. Chu locked in to return as director for the third installment, but before yesterday the film did not have a writer attached. Now it seems that Paramount has tapped Evan Daugherty, who previously did the box office hit Snow White and the Huntsman, to write the script for G.I. Joe 3. Evan has already done some writing for a few other upcoming adaptations: He co-wrote the script for the young adult adaptation of Divergent, and was called in to do some revisions on the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles adaptation. Paramount was apparently impressed with his work on these films, so they brought him in for G.I. Joe 3.
I am probably going to be in the minority here, but I actually liked Snow White and the Huntsman. I also really liked both G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, so I am kind of excited to see what Evan Daugherty can do with G.I. Joe 3. I hope he adds in some more characters that have not had the chance to be on the big screen yet, or even bring back some of the original cast from the first movie. I'm not too familiar with most of the characters in G.I. Joe, so I don't know if I can make any good suggestions for new people who could make an appearance in the next film. I can only say I want most of the original team to come back. Either way, I'm still excited for what's next for the franchise.
G.I. Joe 3 currently does not have a release date, but since it finally has a writer and director hopefully that news will come shortly.
