Game of Thrones director officially offered job to helm Terminator 5

It looks like Terminator 5 now has its director as Variety recently reported that Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Thor: The Dark World) is in talks with Skydance Productions, Paramount Pictures, and Annapurna Pictures for the project.

Several well-known directors were in the running for Terminator 5, but each of the studios were apparently impressed enough with Taylor's work on Game of Thrones and Thor: The Dark World that they offered him the job. If he signs on production will begin early 2014 to get it ready for a 2015 release.

In recent interviews Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed he would return in a currently unknown role. I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up as a Terminator again, but it would be cool to see him in a different role. There has also not been any plot details released about the next installment of the franchise, other than it will be the first of a standalone trilogy. The trilogy will begin on June 26, 2015.

I only have one question - is this reboot really necessary?!? I mean, I love the original Terminator trilogy, and so I will most likely still go see each of the new installments as they come out, but I can't help but think this series just needs to be left alone. It is bad enough they tried to do a prequel a few years ago that failed miserably. Why does there need to be a whole new trilogy? Not to mention that I am kind of beginning to think Schwarzenegger just needs to retire. I like him as an actor, but I'm not sure how much longer he can keep doing these types of movies. I guess we'll see in 2015 whether this new direction for the franchise was a good idea or not.

Terminator 5 will be in theaters June 26, 2015.
